When and where does the Band rehearse?
Band rehearsal is held on Friday mornings during our season (August – May) from 9:30AM to 11:30AM. Rehearsal location is McCambridge Park, 1515 North Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank, CA 91504.
What if I haven't played in years?
No problem – that was true of almost everyone in our band when they joined. Of course, you’ll need to practice outside of rehearsal, but you’ll be surprised how fast it comes back! And, there are no auditions to play in the Band. So why not join?
What level of playing/experience do I need in order to join?
We ask that you had experience playing your instrument at least one year at the high school level (even if that was MANY years ago). You also need to be able to read music. If you are a percussionist, you should be able to read rhythms.
Is there an age requirement to be a member of the Burbank Community Band?
You must be at least 18 years old in order to join the band. We have musicians ranging from college students to well beyond retirement, and every age in between.
What do I need to provide?
1) Your own instrument, 2) music stand, 3) pencil for every rehearsal, 4) Uniform (For certain performances, the concert uniform consists of a black shirt, black pants, black socks, and black shoes. Members are responsible for providing these items. Other concerts require the BCB blue polo shirt, which is available for purchase through the Band.)
What is the time commitment involved in playing in the Burbank Community Band?
We get together every Friday morning 9:30AM-11:30AM (during our season, except holidays) to rehearse, catch up, and make great music. Regular attendance helps keep us sounding our best. We also pitch in with small behind-the-scenes tasks to keep things running smoothly. Can’t make a rehearsal? No problem — just give us a quick heads-up.
Are there auditions for acceptance into the Band?
Nope — no auditions! If you’ve got your instrument, can read music, and are ready to have fun making music together, come on in.
What are there membership dues?
Nope! Membership is free. If you’d like to chip in now and then to help with music, equipment, or other band costs, we’re always grateful.
